This one was a quick overnight run three of us, early 6am start, and a cruisy two-hour drive out to Lenard Track, just outside of Collie. Nothing too planned, just the usual “see where we end up” type of trip.
Lenard Track – Dry and Done in 3
We knocked out the Lenard Track in under 3 hours. It was dry, so nothing too technical a few small ruts and climbs, but nothing that needed lockers or a spotter. We still aired down to 18psi for comfort and grip.
One thing to note: the big exit hill at the end would be a whole different beast if it was wet. It’s steep and could turn slick real quick. Definitely worth keeping in mind if you’re heading out in winter or after rain.
River Spots & an Old Flying Fox
After the track, we headed toward Honeymoon Pool, but didn’t end up camping there. It was a bit busy, so we darted off to a secret spot nearby quieter, more private, and with better access to the river.
There are heaps of nice little clearings along the river out that way. One of them even had a bit of history an old decommissioned flying fox crossing the river. Pretty cool to see, definitely not in use anymore, but a fun surprise tucked away in the bush.
We kept it simple swags, fire, some decent food and a few laughs. The river running nearby made for a great backdrop, and the mozzies weren’t too savage which was a win.
No real reception out there, which was actually kind of nice. Good excuse to just kick back and disconnect for a bit.
Gear Notes
-
Tires: Aired down to 18psi (my standard air down pressure for rocky stuff)
-
Track conditions: Dry, easy-going
-
Recovery gear: Didn’t need it in the end , but always good to have
-
Camp setup: Swags and the basics no need for overkill
-
Firewood: BYO not much laying around
-
Insects: Not too bad, but repellent still handy
Wrap-Up
If you’re chasing a mellow overnight run with a bit of track and some river time, this is a solid option. Lenard Track was a quick, fun drive, and the nearby bush camping topped it off perfectly.
Might head back after some rain to see how that hill holds up could be a different story with some mud involved.
