A Seabird Surprise – A Trip That Just Happened

One of Those Trips That Just Worked

This one popped back into memory the other day  a trip from a couple of years ago that wasn’t planned like most, but ended up being one of those laid-back, laugh-filled missions that just worked.

Mates of Mates

It all kicked off when a good mate invited me along with a bunch of blokes I hadn’t met before. Bit of a roll of the dice, but they turned out to be a top crew. You know how it is, sometimes the best trips are the ones where you don’t know exactly what you're in for.

We pointed the rigs north and headed out toward Seabird, a small coastal spot just out of Perth. Nothing hectic, just a cruisy run and a chance to get some sand under the tyres.

Beach, Pub & Banter

The weather turned it on, tide was playing nice, and we found a perfect spot to pull up near the water. Cars lined up, doors open, the sun dropping low that sort of afternoon that just hits right.

Eventually we wandered up to the local pub. Classic coastal setup. Cold beers, relaxed locals, good chat. Might’ve hung around a bit longer than planned, had a few more than intended, and the walk back to the beach definitely involved some zig-zagging and plenty of laughs.

Back at the cars, we just dropped swags where we stood. No dramas, no plans. Just a chilled night of solid yarns under the stars. Nothing wild, just that good kind of quiet that comes after a full day and a full belly.

Next morning rolled in with blue skies and salty air. A few dusty heads, but a lot of smiles as we packed up and rolled out.

Gear Notes

  • Swags and simple light setups were the go — no need to overpack for this kind of trip

  • 18psi was bang-on for the beach entry and exit its quite solid along there.

  • Bit of shade goes a long way if you're hanging on the beach into the arvo

  • Bring rubbish bags and take it all with you  leave no trace please

  • Pub’s within walking distance… depending how good your walking legs are on the way back
